3 Programs Designed for You 

For peptide therapies, the problem is  usually one of two situations. Either, you've done your research, know what you'd like to try, but aren't 100% confident in the sources of peptides you've seen.

"Research chemical" sites aren't held to the same rigorous standards as compounding pharmacies and the lab testing of these peptide samples shows it- often they contain detectable amounts of "LPS" (lipopolysaccharide, essentially remnants of bacterial membranes that can significantly raise inflammation) or other impurities. 

For others, you may not even know where to start! There are SO many peptides out there, and many of them have overlapping potential benefits. When you order peptides directly from a retailer, you don't get the chance to discuss any potential risks with an expert. 

• Are there any risks you should be aware of with the peptide itself (i.e. cancer risk)?
• Will it have any negative effects in your body, specifically, because of other medical conditions or prescriptions you take?
• Which dose is most appropriate? How long can you stay on it?

If you're already on TRT, there's a good chance yours is prescribed "imperfectly."

• Did they automatically order you "estrogen blockers" like anastrazole, daily clomiphene dosing, or once weekly (or fewer!) testosterone injections? 
• Are you required to "blood dump" because your blood counts get too high?
• Do you feel great after an injection but feel symptoms again just before your next injection?

We started this program because more often than not, patients we saw who were already on TRT had one or more of these issues. Fortunately, in most cases we can completely fix this within the first month.

If you are suffering from menopause symptoms, odds are you've had one of these unfortunate experiences.

• Did someone refuse to discuss hormone replacement, claiming it "causes cancer" or "is unnatural?"
• If you have received treatment, was it with a birth control pill OR only using a combination of progesterone and estrogen therapy?

Like our testosterone replacement inspiration, Angela Barone, DNP, Admire Medical's Women's Health specialist, became involved in this space because of hearing stories like these all too frequently. 

Too often, primary care physicians and other non-specialists talk about testosterone and menopause HRT as if they are a trade-off between health and wellness, almost as if restoring hormonal health is at the expense of your long-term health and lifespan. 

When managed appropriately, this outlook couldn't be further from the truth. Research now suggests that restoring testosterone to normal levels conveys health benefits likely without increased risk of prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other outdated concerns. 

For most women, menopause-related hormone replacement therapy is safe and may reduce the risk for certain cancers like colon cancer, bone fractures, cardiovascular disease, and dementia.

This is a common reason to team up with Admire. Research suggests a month or two of physical/medical optimization before surgery (prehabilitation) can significantly improve the outcomes- fewer complications, faster recovery, and less pain along the way. 

We've helped our patients lose enough weight to qualify for surgery or, in some cases, put their surgery on hold indefinitely. 

High blood sugar increases risk of infections. High BMI (body mass index) increases your pain leading up to surgery and makes recovery afterwards more difficult.

It's a lot easier to put weight on that new knee joint when the weight is 50 pounds less.

Hal openly discusses the promise Dr. Watson (Alex) made to him when they first met. 

While working as a rehabilitation physician (physiatrist) in an acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital, Dr. Watson met Hal. Hal had just suffered a stroke with left arm weakness, some speech difficulties, and other mood/concentration symptoms, and his metabolic picture was one of the strongest contributors to his risk for his stroke. With high blood pressure, a hemoglobin A1c >10%, and high cholesterol at that time, Hal now remarks feeling relieved that "all" he had was a stroke.

Dr. Watson made a "promise" to him- as much as anyone can promise anything in medicine. "Work with us, and we'll get you off of insulin and probably get your A1c back to normal."

Over the past year, he's dropped almost 100 lbs, reversed his diabetes completely while completely weaning off insulin, restored testosterone levels to normal. Hal is also at the point where his stroke effects are virtually undetectable. 

At a recent visit, his blood pressure was 112/64!  "Alex, what lowered my blood pressure so much?!" he asked.

Maximizing metabolic health before starting cancer treatment is near and dear to Dr. Watson's heart. It's no secret that smoking, drinking, and other behaviors increase risk for developing cancer, but how many know that most cancers are also linked to high body weight and diabetes? Or that chronic under-sleeping may also significantly increase the risk for cancer in certain populations.

So, how many people can receive a cancer diagnosis and say to themselves "well, guess I'd better start exercising, cutting out junk food, getting more/better sleep, and quit drinking. I've been ready to do this- I just needed a reason to start!" Realistically, a bit of guidance from someone who has taken patients through this journey is ideal, ensuring no wasted time or effort. During a 6 or 8 week prehabilitation period, there's no time to waste.

Dr. Andrew Douwes is a sports-focused physical therapist with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware—one of the nation’s leading programs in rehabilitation sciences. Currently practicing at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Maryland, Dr. Douwes specializes in injury recovery, performance reconditioning, and return-to-play strategies for high-level athletes.

With his strong background in biomechanics and functional strength training, Dr. Douwes bridges injury rehabilitation with performance optimization. His approach combines individualized movement assessments, manual therapy, and sport-specific programming to support athletes through every stage of recovery—from the first step post-injury to their full return to competition.

Throughout his undergraduate and graduate schooling, Dr. Douwes worked extensively as a personal trainer and performance coach. He's trained U.S. military veterans and NCAA athletes across multiple sports. This hands-on experience shaped his athlete-centered approach, emphasizing movement quality, resilience, and functional strength.

At US Lacrosse, Dr. Douwes works alongside performance coaches, athletic trainers, and orthopedic physicians to deliver integrated care for professional athletes and rising youth talent alike. He is also involved in research and education initiatives aimed at reducing injury risk and enhancing long-term athletic development.

Dr. Watson trained at the University of Pittsburgh Medical center, one of the leading hospitals for rehabilitation. While there he worked with all individuals ranging from hardworking coal miners and iron workers to professional athletes and competitive "weekend warriors."

While there, I wrote two chapters in a handbook for clinicians when treating back pain, before eventually writing two books about medical rehabilitation, the latter of which was another textbook.

Dr. Watson has dual board certifications in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Obesity Medicine, and he tends to obsess over how active people/athletes recover from musculoskeletal injuries. But even more than that, how to get back to performing at the highest levels, sooner.
